I spent a good amount of time researching my options before I purchase this over 1 year ago, and came to the end that this was my best option.
Last week the motor suddenly stopped working last week when I put it into assistance for the first time this year (a short of some kind as it started smoking). However, it has a 5 year warrantee, so I am about to investigate getting it replaced.
While it worked, I liked enough that I bought a 2nd one for the kids' room. That 2nd one made an awful racket when I first turned it on, however it was easy enough to get a quick transfer at Bbb.
It is quiet enough for me to sleep to and loud enough to supply decent background noise for my wife and puts out plentifulness of moisture without creating wet spots or dust or difficult to clean residue. transfer wicks are easy to obtain and all the minerals left behind are in the discarded wick and not cemented to the humidifyer (I hated cleaning our old hot mister evaporater).
I would recommend it, but be prepared to return it for other one.
<Update - I wound up having to return the new one three times because the motor kept konking out after the first night's use. however the last time I decided that it may be a power regulation issue. I live in Chicago and the electricity is quite stable, but maybe something in the house was tripping something inside the unit. I bought a higher-end surge protector during the last transfer and it has worked just fine for the past 3 months. Something in the electronics may be a bit too sensitive to power fluctuations.
I also found that I can return the wicks to an practically new state buy soaking them in a bucket of hot water with vinegar overnight, then hot water with bleach for an hour, then hot water with a tiny dash of palmolive for a few minutes to help get rid of the bleach, then plain water once or twice to get rid of the detergent/beach, then leave them on their side in the empty bucket overnight to dry out.
You have to be just handling them as they will be fairly fragile thru this process until they dry out.>
